{"id":247,"date":"2016-02-24T20:18:43","date_gmt":"2016-02-24T20:18:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nwc.co\/3\/?p=247"},"modified":"2016-02-24T20:32:03","modified_gmt":"2016-02-24T20:32:03","slug":"help-us-name-our-new-seasonal-program-for-coworking-spaces","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nwc.co\/3\/help-us-name-our-new-seasonal-program-for-coworking-spaces\/","title":{"rendered":"Help us name our new seasonal program for coworking spaces!"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"dslc-theme-content\"><div id=\"dslc-theme-content-inner\"><div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-offset-key=\"7dd83-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"7dd83-0-0\">I&#8217;ve been interviewing lots of coworking space managers, and am noticing some common challenges: (1) attracting and retaining members, (2) maintaining a strong culture and avoiding the &#8220;everyone just walks in and puts on their headphones&#8221; phenomenon, and (3) lessening the load on the founders and decreasing burnout.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-offset-key=\"eaqb2-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"eaqb2-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"eaqb2-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-offset-key=\"2bqh8-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"2bqh8-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"2bqh8-0-0\"><span data-text=\"true\">I believe I have a solution that addresses all of those things. It centers around creating a regular structure and schedule that makes the experience of running a space less of a daily rut. <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-offset-key=\"91ln7-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"91ln7-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"91ln7-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-offset-key=\"1ud6j-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"1ud6j-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"1ud6j-0-0\"><span data-text=\"true\">Schools have semesters. Corporations have quarters. Accelerators have classes. The moon has phases. The earth has seasons. Everything has a cycle with a natural ebb and flow. <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-offset-key=\"fjj3k-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"fjj3k-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"fjj3k-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-offset-key=\"219ok-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"219ok-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"219ok-0-0\"><span data-text=\"true\"><strong>What would be the ideal equivalent in coworking spaces?<\/strong> The program I&#8217;m developing seeks to address that.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-offset-key=\"b0hvh-0-0\">\n<h3 class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"b0hvh-0-0\">How it works<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-offset-key=\"9nn98-0-0\">\n<ol>\n<li class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"9nn98-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"9nn98-0-0\"><span data-text=\"true\"><strong>Spaces focus their recruiting on specific seasonal &#8220;kickoff&#8221; dates.<\/strong> Members can join anytime, but if they join by this date, they&#8217;ll be able to take advantage of programs alongside a bunch of others doing the same. Existing members can re-engage along these seasonal structures as well.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"9nn98-0-0\"><strong>The kickoff week onboards all the new members,<\/strong> gives them a chance to talk about what their goals are for the season, and invites them to organize into accountability groups.<\/li>\n<li class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"9nn98-0-0\"><strong>For the next 2-3 months, members work towards their goals,<\/strong> checking in with each other on a regular basis. Community programming is oriented around supporting their learning and progress.<\/li>\n<li class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"9nn98-0-0\"><strong>At the end of the season, members present what they&#8217;ve accomplished,<\/strong> acknowledge their challenges, review what they&#8217;ve learned, and celebrate together in a special ceremony.<\/li>\n<li class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"9nn98-0-0\"><strong>The next season begins!<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-offset-key=\"8c2u6-0-0\">\n<h3 class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"8c2u6-0-0\">Benefits<\/h3>\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"8c2u6-0-0\"><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"8c2u6-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"8c2u6-0-0\"><span data-text=\"true\">This gives coworking space owners a really great way to orient their marketing, their community building, and their publicity.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"8c2u6-0-0\">They can predictably have periods where they can proudly talk about the members they have and what they&#8217;ve accomplished.<\/li>\n<li class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"8c2u6-0-0\">People can more easily form stronger bonds.<\/li>\n<li class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"8c2u6-0-0\">The inherently generational nature of culture among members in coworking spaces is designed for.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-offset-key=\"alu4h-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"alu4h-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"alu4h-0-0\"><span data-text=\"true\">So&#8230; what should we call it?<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-offset-key=\"b0ok3-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"b0ok3-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"b0ok3-0-0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"\" data-block=\"true\" data-offset-key=\"1olth-0-0\">\n<div class=\"_1mf _1mj\" data-offset-key=\"1olth-0-0\"><span data-offset-key=\"1olth-0-0\"><span data-text=\"true\">It has elements that call back to seasons, schools, and accelerators.
