Exactly how and when it happens always involves a bit of serendipitous magic, so approach your new membership with an open mind! Here are a couple of the best ways to give yourself opportunities for great things to happen:\n<ul>\n<li><b>Say hello to strangers!<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li>When you\u2019re at New Work City, you should feel free to say hello to other people. While you should be respectful of people when they\u2019re focused on working, don\u2019t be afraid to share who you are and ask people about themselves.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b><a href=\"http:\/\/groups.google.com\/group\/newworkcity\">Speak up in our discussion group!<\/a><\/b>\n<ul>\n<li>Outside of our physical space, it\u2019s the best place to really connect with the community and make full use of its potential. Post questions, ideas, opportunities, and anything else you might want to share. Feel free to introduce yourself! You should be receiving a notification of your addition to this group shortly after signing up.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b><a href=\"http:\/\/nwc.co\/profiles\">Check out our profile directory<\/a><\/b>\n<ul>\n<li>to see what kinds of things members do here. Either toss the idea out in the discussion group or fill out our <a href=\"http:\/\/nwc.co\/eventapp\">Event Application<\/a>!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>How this whole thing works<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>We pull off something pretty remarkable every day here. On any given day, anyone can walk in off the street and disrupt things here, yet it never happens. That\u2019s the case because we have spent years building a strong culture of mutual respect and support. As a member of New Work City, we are entrusting you, along with everyone else, to maintain the culture that makes us love being here so much. To that end, we ask three core things of everyone:\n<ul>\n<li><b>Respect yourself.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Respect others.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Respect the space.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>If you find yourself wondering what\u2019s allowed or permissible in the space, ask yourself whether what you\u2019re doing is in line with all of the above values. In particular, there are a few key things to be mindful of sharing responsibly (and to hold others accountable for sharing responsibly as well):\n<ul>\n<li><b>Share Internet responsibly<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li>We work hard to ensure the internet is rock solid and always speedy. Let\u2019s be kind to each other by going easy giant file uploads and any other notoriously bandwidth-hogging activities, please!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Share conference rooms responsibly<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li>If you need a room for more than two hours at a time, ask first!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Print freely, but be reasonable<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li>We don\u2019t charge for printing. If you need to print a lot of stuff, though, talk to us first!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>Be as tidy as you\u2019d like everyone else to be.<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li>If you turn into a tasmanian devil when in the restroom, take a moment to spiff up the place after you return to human form.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Generally speaking, if a voice in your head is telling you that you might be doing something wrong, listen to it!
